Give your THYROID a break

The thyroid secretes the two main hormones that regulate the metabolic rate and secretes a hormone for calcium metabolism. It affects proteins, cellular enzymes, growth, cholesterol, triglycerides, phospholipids, arteriosclerosis, muscles, sleep, sexual functions, blood flow, cardiac output, and body weight. It also affects liver/fat deposits, metabolic rate, respiration, carbohydrates, vitamin metabolism, gastrointestinal functions, and the CNS.

That was a mouth full. I didn’t understand half of it, and I won’t pretend to. However it sounds like the thyroid is a very important part of the body. I will tell you what I know and understand about the body. The body does not act well under stress. There are three kinds of stress. There is emotional stress, physical stress, and spiritual stress. If your body is physically worn out from processed foods, and all the chemicals you use on your body, lotions, shampoo, deodorant, soap, toothpaste, Then you will be emotionally, and spiritually stressed as well.

Let’s just talk about the physical body alone. When you bog down your body with bad foods and chemicals, your body is so busy fighting all the toxins it doesn’t have energy to maintain it’s individual parts and keep them healthy. Then, you get an imbalance and things start to break down. That’s why people get allergic to foods, because their body is so over run with toxins that something has to give. Let’s look at it this way. You get up in the morning, you brush your teeth with chemicals. Then you get in the shower and wash your hair with chemicals. Then you wash your body with chemicals. Then you cover your largest organ, your skin with chemicals (lotion). By the time you get to breakfast your body is screaming NO MORE!!! Because what are we feeding it? PROCESSED FOOD!!!! and an allergy evolves, or an illness, or even an emotional breakdown.

The reason I chose to talk about the thyroid is because it is in charge of a lot of things, and because of that it is easily knocked out of balance, and then other things follow. It is also easily put back in balance if you get on it right away.

A stiff neck is one of the signs of an imbalanced thyroid, and sometimes so is clearing your throat. I don’t think I agree with the doctors about cold feet and hands because that is a Vata thing, Vata’s have cold feet and hands. And, Vata’s are the one’s that are more inclined to have thyroid problems. So, people with thyroid problems have cold hands and feet not because of the thyroid, but because they are Vata’s

Here are some things you can do to help your thyroid out. The number one thing for every illness is to do the self body massage. And the number one thing to keep you from getting sick is t do the self body massage. you can find out about that in my blog “The Skin is the first layer of Intelligence”. Some of the foods that are really good for the thyroid are seaweed--parsley--brussels sprouts--oats and watercress. Mustard oil can be applied externally on the throat to stimulate the thyroid. Chanting is very effective for all illnesses, you can chant for the chakra in the throat and visualize it’s color at the throat center, the color is blue and the sound is HUM (hoooom) chant for five minutes, or as long as you like. Chanting makes the whole body feel good. The vibration from doing this several times a day will stimulate the thyroid, and other areas of the body and mind.. Doing the Plow Pose and the Fish Pose also help. Here is an exercise if you want to spend more time. All of these regulate the endocrine glands, especially the thyroid and adrenals.

1).Sitting in an easy pose/or in a chair, hands on the knees with the palms up and relax the whole body.
2).Inhale slowly and deeply through the nose and hold the breath.
3).Lower the chin as close to the collar bone as is comfortable; straighten the elbows and raise the shoulders. Hold the breath for as long as comfortable.
4). Slowly raise the chin and relax the shoulders.
5). Slowly exhale and rest until the breathing returns to normal. This is round 1 repeat 4 more rounds
6). Then do 5 rounds while holding the breath after the exhale.
